SAFETY SIGNAGE & NOTICES

Standard safety signs, their meanings, and site-specific notices. Compliant with AS 1319 — Safety Signs for the Occupational Environment.

Prohibition Signs

Red circle with diagonal bar — indicates something must NOT be done

NO SMOKING

This is a no-smoking site. Smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas and within 4m of any doorway, window, or air intake.

NO UNAUTHORISED ENTRY

Authorised personnel only. All visitors must report to reception.

NO PEDESTRIANS

Forklift operating area. Pedestrians must use designated walkways.

NO MOBILE PHONES

Mobile phone use is prohibited while walking in the warehouse or operating plant.

DO NOT OPERATE

Plant or equipment tagged out of service. Do not operate until tag is removed by authorised person.

NO CLIMBING RACKING

Racking is not a ladder. Use an order picker, EWP, or approved ladder.

Warning Signs

Yellow/black triangle — indicates a hazard that may cause injury

FORKLIFT OPERATING AREA

Forklifts operate in this area. Stay alert. Make eye contact with operators. Use pedestrian walkways.

CAUTION — SLIPPERY SURFACE

This surface may be slippery when wet. Take care. Report spills immediately.

CAUTION — OVERHEAD HAZARD

Overhead loads may be present. Do not stand under suspended loads.

CAUTION — REVERSING VEHICLES

Vehicles reverse in this area. Stay clear. Wait for vehicle to stop before approaching.

CAUTION — HIGH NOISE AREA

Hearing protection must be worn in this area.

CAUTION — HOT SURFACE

Surface may be hot. Do not touch without appropriate PPE.

SAFETY BOOTS MUST BE WORN

Steel-capped safety footwear (AS/NZS 2210.3) must be worn in this area at all times.

HI-VIS MUST BE WORN

High-visibility vest or clothing must be worn in this area at all times.

HARD HAT MUST BE WORN

Head protection must be worn in this area.

SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN

Eye protection must be worn when performing this task.

GLOVES MUST BE WORN

Hand protection must be worn when handling this material.

SEATBELT MUST BE WORN

Seatbelt must be worn when operating this vehicle or plant.

Emergency / Safe Condition Signs

Green rectangle — indicates emergency equipment, exits, or safe conditions

This is an emergency exit. Keep clear at all times. Do not block.

ASSEMBLY POINT

Proceed to this point in the event of an emergency evacuation.

FIRST AID KIT

First aid kit is located here. Check contents regularly. Report when items are used.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER

Fire extinguisher is located here. Check tag date. Report if used or damaged.

SPILL KIT

Chemical spill kit is located here. Use for chemical spills only. Restock after use.

EYE WASH STATION

Emergency eye wash station. Flush eyes for minimum 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Fire Safety Signs

Red rectangle — fire safety equipment and instructions

FIRE EXTINGUISHER — WATER

For use on Class A fires (paper, wood, fabric). Do NOT use on electrical or liquid fires.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER — DRY POWDER

For use on Class A, B, C, and E fires. Suitable for general use.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER — CO₂

For use on Class B and E fires (electrical, flammable liquids). Safe for electrical equipment.

FIRE HOSE REEL

For use on Class A fires only. Do not use on electrical fires. Unwind fully before use.

FIRE ALARM CALL POINT

Break glass to activate fire alarm. Activate immediately if fire is detected.

NO HOT WORK WITHOUT PERMIT

Hot work (welding, grinding, cutting) requires a Hot Work Permit. See supervisor.

Important Safety Rules for Fire Extinguisher Use

  • • Only attempt to fight a fire if it is small (waste paper bin size or smaller), you have a clear exit behind you, and you have been trained.
  • • If the fire is spreading, producing heavy smoke, or you are unsure — evacuate immediately and call 000.
  • • Never put yourself at risk. Your life is more important than any property.
  • • After use, report the extinguisher as discharged so it can be recharged immediately.

Printing Safety Signs

Physical safety signs must comply with AS 1319 — Safety Signs for the Occupational Environment. Signs must be durable, legible, and positioned where they can be clearly seen. Contact a safety sign supplier for compliant printed signs. Do not rely solely on digital versions of signs in the workplace.
