Environmental Management Policy

POL-019 | Environmental Management Policy | Version 1.0 | February 2026

Purpose

To minimise the environmental impact of [YOUR BUSINESS NAME]'s operations, particularly in relation to waste, spills, and recycling.

Scope

All workers and contractors at [YOUR BUSINESS NAME].

Key Requirements

Waste Management

  1. Segregate waste into the correct bins: general waste, cardboard/paper recycling, plastic recycling, and hazardous waste.
  2. Cardboard and packaging materials must be flattened and placed in the recycling skip.
  3. Hazardous waste (chemicals, batteries, fluorescent tubes) must be disposed of through approved contractors — never in general waste.

Spill Prevention and Response

  1. Store chemicals in designated areas with bunding (containment) to prevent spills reaching drains.
  2. Never pour chemicals, oils, or fuels down drains or onto the ground.
  3. In the event of a spill, use the spill kit immediately and contain the spill before it reaches a drain.
  4. Report all spills to your supervisor.

Recycling

  1. Recycle cardboard, paper, plastic, and metals where facilities are provided.
  2. Return pallets and packaging materials to suppliers where possible.

Fuel and Oil

  1. Refuel forklifts and vehicles in designated refuelling areas only.
  2. Use drip trays when refuelling or changing oil.
  3. Dispose of used oil through an approved oil recycling contractor.
