Housekeeping Policy

POL-018 | Housekeeping Policy | Version 1.0 | February 2026

Purpose

To maintain a clean, tidy, and safe workplace that minimises the risk of slips, trips, falls, and fire.

Scope

All workers at [YOUR BUSINESS NAME].

Key Requirements

  1. Clean as you go: Clean up spills, debris, and waste immediately — do not leave it for someone else.
  2. Designated storage: All items must be stored in their designated location. Do not leave items in aisles, walkways, or emergency exits.
  3. Pedestrian walkways: Keep all marked pedestrian walkways clear at all times.
  4. Racking: Do not store items on the floor in front of racking. Ensure pallets are stored correctly within racking bays.
  5. Waste disposal: Dispose of waste (cardboard, wrapping, strapping) in the correct bins immediately after use.
  6. Spills: Clean up spills immediately. Use the spill kit for chemical spills. Report spills that cannot be immediately cleaned up.
  7. Lighting: Report any faulty lighting immediately.
  8. Electrical leads: Do not leave extension leads across walkways. Secure leads to prevent trip hazards.

Inspections

Supervisors will conduct a daily housekeeping inspection using the Warehouse Opening/Closing Checklist (CHECK-002/003). Any issues must be corrected before work commences.

Everyone's Responsibility

Good housekeeping is everyone's responsibility. If you see a hazard, fix it or report it — do not walk past it.
